When planning the rollout of new products, restaurant chains often introduce seasonally appropriate foods and beverages or specific holidays. In the fall, in addition to the inevitable pumpkin spice wave, many chains beef up their menus with Halloween-themed specials (like Applebee’s Dracula’s Juice cocktail or Ghost Pepper Chicken Nuggets from Burger King), or welcome the arrival of cooler weather with hearty and/or spicy dishes of all kinds.
In order to compile an updated list of new offerings for the Halloween season and beyond, 24/7 Tempo has reviewed several recent editions of the Menu Tracker feature published regularly by Nation Restaurant News (NRN), a leading national restoration publication. In it, Bret Thorn, NRN’s Food and Beverage Editor, details new additions to menus across a wide range of the chain’s operations in the US – and recently, a number of Halloween-specific items. or in the fall were presented. The list covers recent additions to the menu of around 20 channels, with preference given to those that are best known across the country. As usual, the new items encompass a wide variety of ingredients and flavors. Chicken, which is usually the most common protein on our lists, appears only twice this time, losing out to pork, with six entrees (counting bacon, pepperoni and the ingredients for a Cuban sub). .
One such specialty that fans will be delighted to hear is McDonald’s mythical and elusive McRib, which seems to come and go more or less at random. (Here are some more the fast food dishes that we would like to see again on the menu.)
Expect Thanksgiving and Christmas-themed additions to the channel’s menus, which will appear shortly.
